Dental lithotripsy: say goodbye to pain and loose teeth!
As a practice specializing in periodontal treatment, Studio Paro uses state-of-the-art technology: dental lithotripsy.
A gentle and effective alternative to traditional surgical techniques, this treatment protocol allows you to restore good oral health, quickly and painlessly.
A quick reminder of periodontal disease...
Also known as periodontitis, this is a condition caused by bacteria accumulating between the tooth and gum. This development is favoured by the presence of tartar and plaque, but also by various medical, genetic or medicinal factors.
Often silent for several years, this pathology gradually attacks all periodontal tissues: gums, ligament, cementum and jawbone. Without it, teeth begin to move, or even fall out. Periodontitis can also have repercussions on your overall health, which is why regular monitoring of your periodontal health is so important.
What is periodontal lithotripsy?
Also known as ” surfacing”, lithotripsy makes use of the same technique used to destroy kidney stones, namely ultrasound. It is neither scaling, which remains on the surface – although it has its uses – nor subgingival curettage, which is particularly invasive and painful.
Periodontal lithotripsy uses a vibrating sonic tip to remove tartar from under the gums (which encourages bacterial proliferation). In this way, the periodontal pockets formed as a result of periodontal disease, and home to the bacteria responsible for the disease, are cleansed. While this does not eliminate the disease, it does halt its progression.
How is periodontitis treated at the practice?
At Studio Paro, we favor an inclusive approach to care, meaning that we involve the patient in his or her treatment. To achieve this, we follow a proven protocol that includes :
- a complete dental check-up;
- a personalized care program, including a certain number of lithotripsy sessions;
- Local care at home: brushing with hydrogen peroxide and baking soda, use of interdental brushes, mouthwash;
- regular follow-up consultations after the end of treatment.
The benefits of lithotripsy for your health and well-being
Combined with plaque control, dental surfacing removes tartar from under the gums. This technique, which Studio Paro has been using for years, has a number of major advantages:
- it is painless and does not require anesthesia;
- it is gentle and respects the integrity of dental and periodontal tissues;
- it effectively halts the progression of periodontitis and avoids its side effects.
