Gingivitis treatment:
Tailor-made care and advice at Studio Paro

Are your gums red and swollen? Are they bleeding? You probably need treatment for gingivitis.

Studio Paro in Lyon specializes in the treatment of periodontal disease. We welcome you to our practice in the heart of the Part-Dieu district for tailor-made treatment.

Here we explain what gingivitis is, how it differs from other dental diseases and how to treat it.

What is gingivitis?

Gingivitis is a benign inflammation of the gums, resulting in red, swollen gums, irritation and bleeding that can occur when brushing or biting into an apple.

It’s caused by the accumulation of bacteria at the junction between teeth and gums. Plaque builds up, then becomes tartar as it becomes denser.

Anyone can be affected by gingivitis, as studies on the subject show: 80% of French people have already been affected by the condition in the course of their lives. Taking certain medications, or even pregnancy (due to the hormonal changes it entails) can also contribute to gum problems.

It’s important to seek medical advice at the very first sign, because a gum problem that drags on and isn’t treated in time can lead to periodontitis, a pathology that develops slowly and gradually destroys the gums (which become thinner), as well as the alveolar bone, ligament and cementum that hold the teeth in place in the jaws.

How to treat gingivitis

At Studio Paro, gum care depends on the condition of the gums and the presence or absence of subgingival tartar.

The bulk of the treatment consists of local treatments to be carried out at home. Your Lyon periodontologist will provide you with a dental kit and a prescription to carry out the treatment at home. Our team will also demonstrate the brushing technique required for optimum results.

Use a mixture of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide to brush your teeth morning and night. The resulting paste fights inflammation-causing bacteria and helps to deflate gums, making them healthier by the day.

This treatment alone can overcome most cases of gingivitis.

However, in the presence of a little subgingival tartar, 1 or 2 lithotripsy sessions may be suggested to prevent the onset of periodontitis.

This method consists of removing tartar that has accumulated under the gums (and is therefore inaccessible) by means of vibrations emitted by a specially designed insert, in the same way as for kidney stones. The technique is painless and requires no anesthetic or microsurgery.

Once treatment has been completed, you may be offered regular follow-up care if you are at risk of developing gum problems.

At Studio Paro, we give you personalized advice, tailored to your situation, and make you an active member in the success of your gum treatment.
