Periodontal care at Studio Paro in Lyon 3rd district
The term “periodontal care” refers to all the techniques used to treat the support system of the teeth. These treatments are designed to overcome diseases such as gingivitis, peri-implantitis or periodontitis.
Located in the heart of Lyon’s 3rd arrondissement, our periodontics practice offers you tailor-made support and state-of-the-art care. Here, we explain the treatments we offer.
A periodontal assessment prior to any treatment protocol
Before considering periodontitis treatmentthe practitioner who sees you systematically carries out a thorough examination. This enables him/her to assess your oral health and carry out additional tests if necessary: X-rays, microbiological examination, etc. In this way, your periodontist can accurately assess the progress of the disease and the type of bacteria present, in order to adapt the treatment.
Following this assessment, your periodontologist will present you with his or her recommended treatment plan, including the number of lithotripsy sessions required. At the same time, you’ll receive a quotation, together with a payment schedule if you’d like to take advantage of payment facilities (payment in 3 instalments or personalized monthly instalments).
The lithotripsy sessions carried out in the clinic are complemented by local treatments to be carried out at home. These are explained to you in detail by the care team.
Lithotripsy or root planing?
Lithotripsy has long been used to remove kidney stones. Its application in periodontal treatment is based on the same principle, namely the destruction of stones. In this case, the aim is to remove tartaric calculi from beneath the gums, using an insert that vibrates at the speed of sound to destroy the tartar particles.
Your periodontologist uses a magnifying glass and a translumination lamp to perfectly visualize periodontal pockets and tartar calculi. In the vast majority of cases, sessions are painless and require no anesthetic. What’s more, this technique respects tissue integrity and facilitates healing of the periodontium.
Root planing is a technique used to remove tartar and cementum. This classic technique requires anesthesia, as it can be very painful. It does not allow the periodontium to heal completely or quickly. At Studio Paro, we have abandoned this technique in favor of lithotripsy.Follow-up with your periodontologist
Once the required number of sessions has been completed, your practitioner will schedule follow-up visits, the interval of which will depend on your residual periodontal risk. The aim is to check the condition of your teeth and periodontium (bone, ligament, cementum and gum), in order to prevent any recurrence.
