Periodontal treatment: an alternative to scaling
It’s important to distinguish between scaling and periodontal remediation or lithotripsy. Scaling merely removes surface tartar, and is therefore aggressive to tooth tissue. Subgingival scaling, on the other hand, is an invasive technique with painful after-effects.
In contrast, a lithotripsy session involves literally “bursting” the accumulated calculus using a sonic insert. The method is painless, minimally invasive and requires no anaesthetic.
How a lithotripsy session works
Periodontal pockets are located beneath the gums. They are spaces in which bacteria accumulate silently over time, until they cause an inflammation called “periodontitis”. This pathology attacks the entire tooth support system: gum, cementum, ligament and bone. Ultimately, it weakens the anchoring of teeth, which can lead to them falling out.
To clean up periodontal pockets, your dentist uses an insert that vibrates at the frequency of sound, causing tartar build-up to explode. Harmless to dental and oral tissues and painless, this technique effectively combats periodontal disease.
Lithotripsy treatment is similar to that used to remove kidney stones.
Studio Paro's support for your periodontal treatment
Based on the observation that many patients feel helpless, even ashamed, when faced with periodontal disease, we have created a practice dedicated to periodontal care. Our aim is twofold: to relieve the pressure on local dental practices, and to offer patients a personalized, caring and effective service.
At Studio Paro, every patient is welcomed and involved in his or her treatment. All periodontal treatment is systematically preceded by a full oral check-up, to establish a diagnosis and ensure that there are no contraindications.
Your periodontologist then draws up a personalized treatment plan. This includes in-office sessions, as well as simple steps you can take at home to optimize the effectiveness of lithotripsy. Follow-up appointments are also scheduled.
Lithotripsy is not reimbursed by Social Security. However, diabetic patients on ALD benefit from a flat-rate payment of 480 euros every three years. Some mutual insurance companies also offer coverage. Finally, Social Security partially reimburses the initial check-up, as well as the follow-up consultation.
To help you benefit from effective periodontal treatment, Studio Paro offers a payment schedule. Discuss this at your first appointment.
