How does a
periodontology consultation work?
At our periodontics practice in Lyon, we provide patients with genuine care, both human and medical.
Studio Paro offers periodontal consultations to prevent and treat periodontal disease.
Why make an appointment with a periodontist?
Periodontitis is the main reason for visits to our facilities. This bacterial infection affects the periodontium, the tissues that support the tooth: gum, bone, ligament and cementum. Often the result of poorly treated gingivitis, or a genetic predisposition to the disease, periodontitis can have serious consequences, including tooth loosening. It can also lead to widespread infection, as bacteria enter the bloodstream.
Have you noticed increased sensitivity to cold or heat, bleeding or swollen gums, shifting teeth? Your regular dentist can refer you to us, as Studio Paro is dedicated exclusively to periodontal care.
First periodontics consultation: the periodontal check-up
The first periodontal consultation consists of a comprehensive health interview, accompanied by a thorough clinical examination. This includes a visual examination, as well as photographs, X-rays and plaque sampling. Plaque is then analyzed under the microscope.
The aim of this session is to carry out a periodontal assessment and draw up a customized treatment plan.
Periodontal care: lithotripsy in the office and best practices at home
Treatment at Studio Paro is characterized by genuine patient involvement. From the very first appointment, your dentist will show you how to perform local oral care at home. He or she will also provide you with a kit of products designed to “prepare” your gums for future periodontal care.
In the practice, periodontics consultations involve the gentle removal of subgingival calculus using lithotripsy. This painless technique, inspired by that used to remove kidney stones, durably sanitizes periodontal pockets. Treatment generally requires two to fifteen sessions, depending on the stage of periodontal disease.
During each lithotripsy appointment, your dental surgeon uses the X-rays taken during the initial consultation to identify and treat each affected area. During the course of treatment, new images may be taken to assess the progress of the disease.
Finally, once the treatment has been completed, your practitioner will assess the frequency of follow-up periodontal visits, ranging from every 3 months to every year, depending on the periodontal risk. If tartar is detected, the gums are once again cleaned and plaque removed. In this way, the progression of periodontitis is permanently halted.
Why entrust your periodontal health to our dentists?
In-office care alone is not always enough to ensure good gum health. That’s why all our patients receive personalized advice on what to do at home. Depending on the case, the practitioner recommends the use of a specific toothbrush, interdental brushes, plaque remover or a bicarbonate/hydrogen peroxide mixture for brushing.
If you have inflamed gums or oral tissues, don’t wait to benefit from high-quality dental and periodontal care. Our care coordinator will be happy to tell you more about the reimbursement of costs by Social Security and mutual insurance companies, as well as the possibility of payment in instalments.
