Medical periodontics: effective, gentle care
Early treatment of periodontitis periodontitis treatment can halt the progression of the disease without the need for gum removal or anesthesia. Lithotripsy stops the loss of attachment of your teeth by stabilizing their entire support system and eliminating inflammation and infection, without the need for surgery or even anesthesia,
Studio Paro welcomes and cares for many patients at a loss when faced with this disease. Periodontitis is caused by an imbalance between the number of bacteria responsible for periodontitis and the patient’s immune response to these bacteria. In some people, the immune response is deficient. At Studio Paro, our role is to understand the source of the problem through a thorough periodontal assessment.
Our periodontists use their human touch and state-of-the-art skills to stop this pathology before it leads to tooth loss.
Periodontal lithotripsy treatment
Periodontitis is an infection of the periodontium, i.e. the tissues that hold teeth in place: alveolar bone, ligament, cementum and gingiva.
Genetic factors come into play to explain this disease, caused by an imbalance between the number of bacteria responsible for periodontitis and the patient’s immune response to these bacteria. In some people, the immune response is deficient.
The patient’s immune system cannot spontaneously eliminate these bacteria. They develop and the disease takes hold. Aggravating factors can accelerate the process of periodontal destruction: unbalanced diabetes, smoking, all forms of stress, absence of cavities…
If left untreated, a periodontal pocket – a space between the tooth and the gum – will form. Plaque accumulates there, and bacteria attack the periodontium. This plaque, which accumulates in the periodontal pockets and is inaccessible to brushing, calcifies and transforms into subgingival tartar.
Over time, the bone gradually thins and retracts, eventually causing the tooth to loosen and fall out.
At Studio Paro, our role is to understand the source of the problem through a thorough periodontal assessment.
Our periodontal dentists advocate a medical approach called lithotripsy. This involves removing tartar that has formed in the periodontal pocket using a sonic instrument capable of eliminating tartar calculus without damaging the integrity of the tooth, in order to clean up the periodontium and stop the associated inflammation and infection.
This gentle method uses sonic vibrations, based on the same principle used to remove kidney stones. In this way, the practitioner is able to eliminate tartaric calculi that have accumulated under the gums, facilitating the agglomeration of pathogenic bacteria.
Home care, an essential complement to in-office treatment
Before, during and after your periodontal care sessions at Studio Paro, it’s essential to practice daily local care at home. To this end, your specialist will provide you with a complete kit, explaining precisely what you need to do:
- brushing teeth with baking soda and hydrogen peroxide
- use of interdental brushes
- regular mouthwash
Finally, once the in-office sessions are over, your periodontist in Lyon will see you again at regular intervals to check that the loss of attachment has stopped. .
A partnership with Lyon's dentists
Studio Paro does not replace the work of dentists and orthodontists, but complements them. Indeed, dental practices in the Rhône-Alpes region don’t always have the time to train in periodontics, nor the possibility of taking on the regular monitoring that periodontal pathologies require.
We therefore work closely with practitioners in the Lyon area to provide their patients with the periodontal care they need, particularly before and after dental implants.
