Treatments and medications
for receding teeth

Often linked to periodontitis, and affecting around a quarter of people aged 35-44, receding teeth are not to be taken lightly. It is essentially due to a combination of two factors: the presence of bacteria aggressive to the periodontium and a defective immune system.

Is there a cure for receding teeth? What treatments are available? Studio Paro explains.

Periodontitis and tooth loosening

Periodontitis is an insidious, slow-growing bacterial disease that affects the supporting elements of the tooth (jawbone, gums, ligament and cementum). Undetected in time, it can lead to the phenomenon of shifting teethor even the loss of some of them.

To put a stop to tooth decay, you need to consult a periodontal dentist, who is the only person able to determine the degree of damage and the treatment required. Untreated periodontitis can not only affect your teeth, but also your general health: increased risk of miscarriage, diabetes, heart or generalized infection…

Medicines for periodontitis and tooth loss

Periodontal disease is treated specifically at home with local antiseptics and in the office with lithotripsy. However, before or in addition to this technique, your practitioner may prescribe medication to treat periodontitis:

  • in the event ofperiodontal abscess, antibiotics may be used;
  • These drugs are also prescribed in cases of periodontitis resistant to lithotripsy treatment;
  • if you are diabetic or have a high risk of infective endocarditis, your dentist will prescribe a course of flash antibiotics before the lithotripsy session;
  • depending on the case, your practitioner may recommend that you take dietary supplements to strengthen your jawbone (vitamin D, in particular).
